Jogjakarta: A Great Experience | Part 1

Last week (26/4/2010 - 2/5/2010) I went to Jogjakarta or Yokyakarta or Djogdjakarta...hahaha so many types of spelling. Well, I went there for the UTM Global Outreach Program. Great experience, made many new friends...hehehe...Nizar, Shariff, Puva, Hajjar and How a.k.a Jasper were the only ones from my batch that joined. The others were 2nd year students and masters students. Dr Min was the coordinator of this program.

Our flight was on 26 April 2010 at 10.55 AM from Singapore. So we all have to get up very early that day. We all kena kumpul dekat FAB at around 6.30 AM. Dr Min dah pesan sejak hari tu lagi, jangan lewat...hehehe...but because of some setback, we all bertolak from UTM at 7.00 AM...(sorry Dr Min).

After all was settled, the bags were packed in the bus, we boarded the bus and I who was in charge to make sure all were on the bus started counting and make sure that there was all 24 people on board. Then off we go to Changi Airport. We all lalu jalan belakang, tak lalu Tambak Johor....nanti jam woooo....So we enjoyed the pemandangan of Singapore which was very clean...you can see the difference....we went pass the Eye of Singapore....Singapore Grand Prix circuit....but didn't see the Merlion though...

Lepas dah lepas semua proses immigration and all, we checked in and waited until to be boarded. Lepas dah masuk plane (Air Asia), I sat next to the window and oh man....sempit.... the last time I naik Air Asia was in 2006 when I went to Aceh. The journey from Singapore to Jogjakarta is 2 and half hours! So terpaksalah duduk sempit macam tu for 2 and half hours. But luckily, last night I didn't sleep and after the plane took off, for about 20 minutes or so, I...krroooohhh....ZzZzZ....and by the time I woke up, we were about to land...yay! The local time was about 12.30 PM and it was blazzing hot...whoah! After that, we all went straight to UGM (Universitas Gadjah Mada). There will be a little briefing about the program and the tentative for the whole week. Soon after, we were brought to tour the faculties and the campus. Gadjah Mada was actually the name of the king of Jogjakarta long ago!

The last faculty that we went was the Fakultas Kedokteran (Faculty of Medicine). After that, we went straight to the hotel (yay!) Malioboro Inn...hehehe....me, Nizar and Shariff were in room 217. The first thing we did when we entered the room was to check the TV to see if there's ESPN and there is! We were planning to watch the Champions League Semi-Final. The room was awesome! There's two bed and one tilam on the floor. We all gilir-gilir tidur...which means on the first day, me and Shariff slept on the beds while Nizar slept on the floor. The next day, was Shariff's turn and so on. That night, we went out jalan-jalan dekat Malioboro...check out the place...woooo ada mall...layan....

The next day, we went back to UGM to hear a lecture about DSS and after that we all checked out the labs and stuff. That evening we went to KOPMA which stands for Koperasi Mahasiswa. They sell all kinda stuff about UGM...t-shirts, bags, keychains, caps and much more. That night we went out again. We all naik bas and jalan-jalan around the city.  Mak asked me to buy a 3 in 1 batik set and I was like, "Mana la nak cari? Tak tahu tempat ni..." Then I asked Prof Zaki coz he has been staying here a week early and he knows. So we all pun jalan-jalan....then I stopped at this one shop and asked about the 3 in 1 thing. She said, "Ada...ada...." and I asked for samples....hehe....after choosing carefully and thinking which patterns that Mak will like, I bought 3...one for Nenek, one for Busu and one for Mak. Then we went to the mall again...saje jalan-jalan...hehehe...
